Genetically Modified

 September 26, 2012

Amy White, Functional Nutritionist

This stuff is super scary. The more I read, see, learn the scarier it all becomes. The scariest part to me is that I don’t think we, as individuals, have much control. I don’t want to eat anything that is genetically modified and I don’t want anyone I know to eat it either.

Below is a trailer for a documentary called Genetic Roulette Movie. Unfortunately, I’m late on this. This movie was available to view for free for 5 days, September 22 being the last day. You can still watch the entire movie but you have to pay $20. Watch the trailer and see what you think. If you want to watch the whole movie and feel comfortable paying $20 for the privilege great.

If you would rather not pay $20, I’m also including a youtube link to GMO, Global Alert. The information in the video is from the results of a Swiss Study that has just been completed. 200 rats were fed transgenic maize for two years (their whole lives). The whole thing is horrible but very telling.

Here is a link to an article on Mercola.com called “Decade-Long Feeding Study Reveals Significant Health Hazards of Genetically Engineered Foods“.

Here’s a website where you can get more information about Non-GMOs. Hopefully Proposition 37 in California will pass and GMOs will need to be labeled. Fingers are crossed. Label the food then everyone can decide what they want to buy/eat.

Below is one more link to an article/video about GMOs. The video is an interview at Huffington Post with Kevin Folta, PhD Plant Molecular & Cellular Biology University of Florida. He thinks that labeling is a bad idea. I disagree but I thought I would include another view point.

This was a bummer of a post but I think it’s important information. I’m beginning to get to a place where I think I’m going to have to grow all of my own food. I really don’t want to, I don’t have the attention span necessary for that kind of an undertaking and I’m lazy!
